The Bideford Triathlon 2012

2012 online entry will be opening soon.  I will send an email to all last year's entrants when I open the entry system so that they have a good chance to enter the race again. Race entries will be capped at 300 total (I can't accomodate many more bikes).

The date for the 2012 Bideford Triathlon is to be the 8th of July 2012.....just 1 week after the ever popular Shoreline triathlon at Bude. "Hooray, back to summer time".  "I don't think I could rely on another abnormally sunny & hot (30 degrees) october day again."

This years race will start at approx 9.40 am.    This year, if you are an individual entrant, you will hopefully (if H & S allow) have a choice of entering one of two races.

either

The Bideford Triathlon 2012 (mass start race)

or

The Bideford Triathlon 2012 (wave start race)

Both will consist of the same 600mtr swim, 23.5Km Bike & 5Km Run.  The only difference being the way that the swim leg starts.  The mass start will involve approximately 140 swimmers all starting at once, whilst the remaining 160 participants will start in waves of 20 people set off at one minute intervals.

THE ROUTES

600mtr swim (wet suits must be worn), 23.5km cycle, 5km Run

"Please click on the underlined text above to view each route map online."

(note that the cycle route may change direction this year)

Relay teams from clubs, work places & other organisations, are welcome to enter the wave start event and take part in the 'Biddy Tri Relay Race'

(Maximum 40 relay team places available)

Each person in the relay team will complete one discipline (swim, bike or run).  These teams can either be all male, all female, or of mixed gender.   1st 2nd & 3rd place will be awarded to these three categories.  Relay team members will not qualify for any of the individual prizes that may be awarded.

Come and be part of the 3rd Bideford Triathlon.

(electronic chip timed event.  All race profits go to charities)

This will be a B.T.F registered triathlon

The Bideford Triathlon is primarily aimed a fulfilling two goals.

  1. To help raise money & distribute it to charities and other good causes.                    p
  2. To provide a well organised race that can be enjoyed by both the experienced and also the less experienced triathlete.

The 2010 & 2011 sprint events were enjoyed by most of those that took part.  We have had great weather both years and have had plenty of people watching the race as well.  The 2010 event managed to make a profit of nearly £3,000 and the 2011 event raised £3,600. There was also quite a lot of money raised by seperate individuals in 2011 who did the race and were raising money for causes they wanted to support.  I know of over £5,000 being raised this way.

If you want to enter the race, either as an individual or as a relay team, and also want to raise money for a particular charity that you support then please feel free to use this race as a 'vehicle' for your cause.  Enter the race, produce your own sponsor forms, get sponsored, then do the race.  We'll organise the race, do the tining etc...... you use the race to make money for your particular charity.....The more the race can generate for charity, the better.

If you do choose to use the race to help your particular charity please let me know afterwards how much you managed to raise.  Its all positive news and can only help the race become more popular as time goes on.

The 2012 Bideford triathlon (The 'Biddy Tri') will again be organised by 'Bideford Bridge Rotary Club' & 'North Devon Triathletes'.

Hopefully we will have a nice crowd again to cheer you on and you'll certainly sleep well after the race knowing that any profits made from the triathlon event will be distributed by Bideford Bridge Rotary Club to charities and other worthwhile causes.

All entrants will receive a small 'goodie bag' and a finishers momento.

Additional prizes will be awarded for each age group category, in both the mass start and the wave start races.

Race Entry Fees for 2012

Sprint event :   £35.00  (£31.50 if BTF registered).

                      £45.00  (Per relay team).

Easy entry can be done quickly online (by clicking the 'enter online' button above) and once your card details are accepted this will put your name directly onto the starting sheet.

There is a small surcharge incurred when entering the event online.  Please rest assured that this surcharge simply pays for the online entry costs.  All profits made from the event are to be distributed by Bideford Bridge Rotary Club to charities and other good causes.

The Sprint event is open to all people who are aged 16 or over on the 31st of December 2011, Under 17's must provide parental consent to take part in the race.  You don't necessarily need to be a seasoned triathlete.

If you are 'thinking about it', Just enter, and TRI your best. You'll love it.  You will get a great feeling of self achievement once you finish.

Hope to see you there, possibly with one or two of your mates as well.

Please note that Bideford Bridge Rotary club also organises an annual 100 Km & 100mile cycle sportif called THE TWO MOORS 100.  Visit www.twomoors100.co.uk to find out more.  The ride takes in parts of Exmoor & Dartmoor and is a test of your cycling endurance.  This event is also electronically timed.

If you are new to triathlon and want to get some training tips and even meet some local training buddies, please contact NORTH DEVON TRIATHLETES (there is a link on one of the 'buttons' further up this page) and they will sort you out and have you fighting fit in time for 'race day'.
